Understanding and Supporting People with Disabilities
An estimated 1.3 billion people (or 16% of the global population) are living with a disability (Source: World Health Organization). Disabled people work, go to school, shop and do all of the day-to-day activities that people without disabilities do. However, as the world's largest stigmatized and disenfranchised group, people with disabilities too often find themselves unemployed and not recognized for their talents, skills and abilities.
In this program, participants will increase their awareness and understanding of disabilities, exercise respectful and inclusive communication and adapt their inclusiveness practices to better understand and support people with disabilities.
Program Description
Designed for people managers and individual contributors, participants will increase their knowledge and build inclusive skills to close gaps and address the inequities that affect people with disabilities in the workplace. Participants will:
- Increase disability awareness by learning about diverse disabilities and the challenges faced by people with disabilities in the workplace
- Develop effective communication strategies to promote respectful and inclusive interactions with individuals with disabilities
- Address stereotypes and biases surrounding disabilities and learn how to implement reasonable accommodations.
- Advocate for disability inclusion, develop inclusive policies, and celebrate the contributions of employees with disabilities.
